Recently, the non-stop automatic counting robot for mining trucks and supporting JinYun counting system developed by Chongqing JinYun Robotics have been successfully deployed at a large open-pit mine. Tailored for the mine’s heavy dust and high vehicle flow conditions, the solution establishes a digital unattended management system for haulage truck traffic, helping mining enterprises automatically collect and fully trace transportation data.

This open-pit mine features intensive mining operations with persistent heavy dust on site and a high volume of haulage trucks. The interval between passing vehicles is only 15 to 20 seconds, representing a high-density continuous traffic scenario. Previously, the mine adopted conventional vehicle counting equipment. Affected by dust occlusion and closely following vehicles, the system frequently suffered missed or duplicate counts and failed to meet the requirements for rapid vehicle passage. In addition, on-site staff had to be stationed round the clock for manual logging, which brought high labor costs. Manual statistics came with subjective errors and easily triggered disputes over haulage settlement, restricting improvements to mine production scheduling efficiency.

To address the challenges of this project, Chongqing JinYun Robotics customized and deployed the non-stop automatic counting robot for mining trucks and JinYun counting management system. The front-end sensing robot adopts an industrial dust-proof enclosure and integrates AI multi-target recognition algorithms to effectively resist dust interference in mining areas and accurately distinguish closely-spaced dump trucks. Vehicles can be automatically counted and photographed for record without slowing down or stopping when passing through the monitoring point.

Powered by edge computing architecture, the system completes vehicle detection and counting locally at the front end, supporting offline local data caching. Data will not be lost even under unstable network conditions. The back-end JinYun counting management platform automatically aggregates passage records, generates multi-dimensional transportation statistical reports, supports permission control, data query and one-click export, and realizes unattended automatic counting of mining trucks.

After the launch of the project, the pain points of high-density traffic and recognition failures caused by dust, which troubled traditional counting equipment, have been resolved. The system stably adapts to continuous truck traffic with 15–20 second intervals. On-site manual attendance and registration are no longer required. The accuracy of vehicle statistics is greatly improved. Transportation logs are automatically archived, effectively avoiding missed counts, duplicate counts and accounting disputes caused by manual recording, and providing reliable data support for mine production scheduling and project volume settlement.

Chongqing JinYun Robotics focuses on the R&D of intelligent sensing equipment for mining industries. For open-pit mines, sand and gravel yards, earthwork sites and other scenarios, we provide integrated solutions including automatic mining truck counting, intelligent metering and unattended management. Customized schemes can be designed according to vehicle flow and environmental conditions of different mines to continuously empower the digital and intelligent transformation of domestic mining operations.
